This handbook presents key steps for metro travel and introduces major lines and transfer stations. You can easily reach scenic sites, railway stations and the airport by metro. Qingdao Metro currently operates 8 lines, namely Line 1, Line 2, Line 3, Line 4, Line 6, Line 8, Oceantec Valley Line and The West Coast Line.

 

Major Transfer Stations

May 4th Square Station

Transfer between Line 2 and Line 3. It is the busiest interchange station, located at the city center next to May Fourth Square and Fushan Bay waterfront.

Qingdao North Railway Station

Interchange for Line 1, Line 3 and Line 8. Directly connected with Qingdao North Railway Station for high-speed rail services.

Qingdao Railway Station

Served by Line 1 and Line 3. Close to Zhanqiao Pier and old German-style historic districts, a popular stop for tourists.

Taidong Station

Transfer station of Line 1 and Line 2. It sits in a bustling commercial district with large shopping areas.

People’s Hall Station

Interchange of Line 3 and Line 4. Within walking distance of Xiaoqingdao Island and coastal scenic spots.

Jiaodong International Airport Station

On Line 8. Offers seamless access to the terminal building of Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport.

Eight Steps to Ride Qingdao Metro

1. Enter the Station

Within 500 meters of the station, there are metro guide signs to help you locate station entrances and exits. Guide boards at every entrance/exit display station name, line number and entrance/exit number.

2. Buy Tickets

You may purchase single-journey tickets.

Mobile Payment: At ticket vending machines, pay via Alipay, WeChat Pay, Cloud QuickPass, Dragon Pay, digital RMB, or get tickets by QR code on the Qingdao Metro app.

Cash Payment: Cash is accepted at ticket vending machines. Banknotes of ¥5, ¥10 and ¥1 coins are supported.

3. Security Check

Please cooperate voluntarily and submit your belongings for inspection by security officers and screening equipment. Passengers refusing security inspection or carrying prohibited items will be denied access to the station.

4. Pass through Entry Ticket Gate

Scan QR codes or swipe cards to pass through the gate (one person one ticket).

E-tickets: Ride codes, companion tickets, day passes, Qindaotong codes and other QR codes are accepted.

NFC-HCE, digital RMB hard wallets can also be used.

Physical tickets: Single-journey tickets, day passes, commemorative tickets, Qindaotong cards and interconnection transit cards are available for gate access.

5. Wait for the Train

Follow the signs to the platform. Check the direction of your train and queue behind platform markings. Public restrooms are available at one end of each platform.

6. Board the Train

Let passengers alight first before boarding. Please move towards the middle of the carriage. Watch out for the gap and height difference between platform and train to avoid tripping or falling. Do not rush aboard when the door closing chime sounds, to prevent injury.

7. Alight from the Train

Keep track of station announcements. Prepare your luggage in advance. Mind the height difference and gap between the train and platform.

8. Exit through Ticket Gate

Follow signs to the exit and check information on the composite information screen to select the correct exit.
Queue behind the yellow line. Insert your single-journey ticket into the recycling slot at the exit gate. Tap Qindaotong stored-value cards or e-tickets on the reader. If the gate fails to open, go to the passenger service center or self-service terminal for assistance.
