Qingdao city in East China's Shandong province recently announced an action plan to develop a modern industrial system through scientific and technological innovation. The city aims to accelerate the cultivation and development of new quality productive forces.
Qingdao will prioritize the development of two leading industries: next-generation information technology and artificial intelligence.
In the next-generation information technology sector, the focus lies on developing niche tracks such as magnetic storage chips, advanced packaging, and new display technologies. The goal is to create a distinctive highland for the development of the next-generation information technology industry, with the aim of reaching a scale of 200 billion yuan ($27.28 billion) by 2027.
Regarding artificial intelligence, the emphasis is on developing niche tracks such as large models in the marine domain, large models in vertical domains, and humanoid robots. The aim is to expand the application areas empowered by artificial intelligence and establish a world-class marine artificial intelligence cluster, with a target of achieving a scale of 120 billion yuan in the artificial intelligence industry by 2027.
The city will also make breakthroughs in the development of five emerging industries that are the new pillars supporting future industrial development. These industries include life and health, intelligent connected new energy vehicles, low-altitude economy, green energy, and intelligent equipment.
Efforts will also be made to advance the development of the city's advantageous industries, which are smart home appliances, high-end chemicals and new materials, and modern light industry.
Qingdao plans to develop more future industries in the next three years. This involves focusing on future information, manufacturing, materials, and space industries to drive significant growth in mature technologies such as terahertz, ocean electronic information, deep-sea development, and aerospace information within the short to medium term.
Additionally, the city aims to nurture emerging industries such as neuromorphic intelligence, quantum information, advanced semiconductor materials, and satellite internet to become the backbone of the industry in the mid to long term. Efforts are being made to actively establish national pilot zones for future industries.
