In Jimo, Qingdao, there is a kind of brocade and embroidery technique inherited for hundreds of years, whose basic technique originates from Luxiu embroidery, combines with the “Xiao Suo Kou” of the northwest region of Jimo, and absorbs the characteristics of the European craftsmanship, which is a perfect fusion of lace weaving and hand embroidery, and enjoys a good reputation in the international market. It’s called Jimo lace.
Traditional embroidery patterns are mostly based on famous folk characters, mandarin ducks, butterflies, flowers and so on. Jimo lace has been enriched with patterns in the process of development, and hundreds of pattern styles have been formed. In 2021, as a kind of Luxiu embroidery, Jimo lace was selected as one of the representative lists of the fifth batch of national intangible cultural heritage.
With the maturity of the technology, the development of Jimo lace has also stepped into a period of prosperity. At present, there are more than 50 small and medium Jimo lace production enterprises and more than 100,000 people engaged in related industries in Jimo area, with products covering more than 2,300 categories.
