On May 8-10, the 2nd China-Pacific Island Countries Ministers Meeting of Agriculture and Fisheries, and the China-Pacific Island Countries Forum on Fisheries Cooperation and Development were held in Nanjing. The Qingdao delegation attended the meeting and actively invited representatives of Pacific island countries to visit Qingdao, exploring multilateral cooperation in fields such as deep-sea fisheries, marine talent cultivation, and marine disaster prevention and reduction, to promote the construction of a China-Pacific maritime community with a shared future.
According to the arrangement, delegations from Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, and Cook Islands will visit Qingdao from May 10th to 13th. During this period, discussions and exchange activities were conducted, and on-site inspections were conducted on the automated dock in the Qianwan Port Area of Qingdao Port, Judayang Algae Industry Group, Chengyang Jiaken Strawberry Industry Project, Pingdu Xinhe Town Grass Weaving Industry Project, Shanghao Technological Freeze Dried Fruit and Vegetable Deep Processing Industry Project. Visits and inspections were conducted on the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Tsingtao Beer Museum, and cultural exchange activities were conducted with Ocean University of China to sign the Cooperation Framework Agreement between Solomon Islands National University and Ocean University of China.
The Pacific island countries region is an important partner along the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road", with unique geographical advantages and marine resources. In recent years, the maritime exchanges and cooperation between Qingdao and Pacific island countries have become increasingly close. In terms of marine fisheries, Qingdao's deep-sea fishery enterprises have been conducting fishing cooperation and tuna fishing in the central and western Pacific regions since 2001. The main cooperative countries include Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Fiji, and Kiribati. In terms of academic exchange, there are currently 16 Kiribati international students and 2 Papua and New Guinea international students studying at Ocean University of China. The Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of Papua New Guinea have conducted multi-level academic exchanges around marine biodiversity, marine cooperative development and other fields.
