The 2022 Chinese summer movie season concluded with a box-office income of RMB9.135bln, growing 27.7% over the same period last year. Notably, Qingdao elements stood out and scored brilliant achievements.
Moon Man, a film entirely shot in the Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis, outperformed significantly other films and topped the summer season with a box-office income of RMB2.896bln.The animation film Goodbye Monster, co-produced by Qingdao Film and TV Company, took RMB37.73mln at the box office, known as the first successful work in developing IP animations based on the Classic of Mountains and Rivers. Her Story, a feminine film, Legend of the Ocean, a film featuring children, Life of Luosang, a film on life in Tibetan ethnic areas, Tie Men Guan, a film on Lv Opera, Shiny Summer, a film on affection and Home Coming, a film on evacuating overseas Chinese, etc. were established in, produced by or shot in Qingdao. The Wandering Earth II, also shot in the Oriental Movie Metropolis, has become the mostly talked about film in advance for the upcoming Spring Festival move season.
Compared to the previous years, films associated with Qingdao this year feature diversified subjects and techniques, enriching the reserve of China’s small and medium-sized film projects, giving play to creation resources, natural resources and intangible cultural heritage in Qingdao and forging the “Qingdao label” in the film industry.
