The China National Intellectual Property Administration recently announced the two lists, i.e. 38 national demonstration cities (urban districts) and 72 national pilot cities (urban districts) for intellectual property rights construction. Qingdao is included among the former list.
With the goal of building a national demonstration city for intellectual property rights construction and guided by the aim of bolstering high-quality development with intellectual property rights protection, since the beginning of this year, Qingdao has improved the quality and value-oriented intellectual property evaluation system, led innovators in shifting the focus from quantity to quality, so as to improve quality and enhance efficiency. Both the number and quality of authorized patents and trade marks hiked in the first half of 2022. To be specific, Qingdao reported 6,754 newly increased authorized invention patents, up 28.4% yoy, 1,276 international patent applications through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), up 65.9% yoy 52,800 valid invention patents (52.51 valid patents per 10,000 people), 42,000 trademark registrations and 430,100 valid registered trademarks, both topping Shandong province. A total of 19 projects from Qingdao were awarded in the 23rd China Patent Award released this July, including one gold award, three silver awards and 15 outstanding awards, ranking first in Shandong province. The above projects cover intelligent household appliance, rail transit, biological medicine and new material, etc.
