End of heat, or chushu in Chinese, is the 14th solar term on the Chinese lunar calendar, which falls on August 23 this year.
Chu means “to end” in Chinese, and Shu means “summer” or “heat”. This is a solar term reflecting the change in temperature.
There are still a few days ahead before the coolness of autumn arrives. People call unseasonably warm weather during this period Qiu Laohu, meaning “Autumn Tiger” in Chinese.
Chushu implies that summer is going away while autumn is around the corner. So let’s get ready for Autumn!
