Li Xia, or the "Start of Summer," the seventh of the 24 solar terms on the Chinese lunar calendar, falls on May 5 this year. It signifies the end of spring and beginning of summer.
In fact, when Lixia begins, the temperature in most areas of China is not high enough to match people’s usual impressions of a sweating summer.
But it means a lot for Chinese farmers, who still consider the wisdom of their ancestors instructive to their agricultural activities.
Alongside the summer heat, thunderstorms will increase markedly and flora and fauna will grow faster. As the crops welcome the rapid growing season, farmers are usually happy to welcome the arrival of Lixia.
It's time to say goodbye to the color of spring and bring back the dense green scenery and the colorful aroma of flowers.
