Today marks the Longtaitou Festival or Dragon Head Raising Festival. It is celebrated on the second day of the second Chinese lunar month.
As the dragon is believed to control rain, a deciding factor for good harvest in ancient times, farmers used to pray during the festival for blessings from the sacred creature. In modern times, people also like to get a haircut for good fortune and success.
Another saying - also the most common one - is that the raising of the dragon's head symbolizes the waking of life from hibernation. From this day on, insects and animals appear more often, ready to begin their life for another year.
May you have a good omen all year round!
