Liu Shiyu, male, born in August 1966, is a fisherman from the Shanjiao community of Hetao Street, Chengyang District, Qingdao, Shandong Province. In September, 2021, a Jiaozhou fishing vessel was fishing in the waters of Jiaozhou Bay when it was suddenly hit by wind and waves, and the lives of several crew members were in danger.
Liu Shiyu, a 56-year-old fisherman who was preparing to return to the ship at that time, successfully rescued seven crew members with the help of other crew members, despite the personal danger and with the help of his years of sailing experience against the huge wind and waves.
In fact, this is not the first time he has done something brave. As early as in the winter of 2003, Liu Shiyu once rushed into the sea with another captain, risking his life, to save 10 foreign crew members in danger in the frightening waves. He said, “Saving people is instinctive, but also responsibility.”
