Kiribati scholars in Qingdao, China who recently participated in a local cultural experience event themed "Kiribati Students Exploring Qingdao". The event is one of the many activities of the 2021"International Friends @Qingdao" program.

Over 100 exhibitions and conventions are held in Qingdao every year. Qingdao is also an Olympic city and China''s "sailing capital". It was the site for the sailing competition of the Games of the 29th Olympiad and the 13th Paralympic Games in 2008. In 2017, the city was designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO) to join its Creative Cities Network(UCCN) as a"City of Film". It is the first Chinese city to have been so named.

Featured in this video post are the highlights of the "cultural experience" event attended by Kiribati scholars in Qingdao, which included a trip to the Olympic Center, the Opera Center and the Tsingtao Beer Museum. The latter, houses one of the earliest breweries in China, that has emerged as the top Asian imported beer brand and the most internationally well-known Chinese consumer brand. It is also a Global Top 500 brand with a strong presence in more than 100 countries. Tsingtao is currently the sixth largest brewer in the world. The Kiribati scholars also performed a traditional dance at the Olympic Sailing Center.

Since November 2019, about 30 Kiribati scholars have been living and studying in Qingdao at the Ocean University of China.

The Qingdao International Community Center is very proud/pleased to see and hear Kiribati spirit, dance, language and culture represented in Qingdao-China by Kiribati scholars- and we wish them the very best in their studies.
