The resident population of Shandong province is 101.527 million. Qingdao resident population exceeded 10 million for the first time!
Compared with 95.793 million people in 2010, the total increase of 5.734 million people in ten years is 5.99%, with an average annual growth rate of 0.58%. Over the past ten years, Shandong has ranked fourth in the country in terms of population growth and continues to maintain a steady growth trend.
Compared with 2010, the total population of Qingdao, Jinan and Rizhao cities ranked one place higher in the province, and the population gathering capacity of Jinan and Qingdao cities was strengthened, and the core position of the central cities in the province was consolidated.
The Value of 10 million people in Qingdao
Qingdao entered the threshold of 10 million people is very significant. As the second most populous province in China, Shandong province previously boasted Linyi, a city with a population of 10 million, but because of its lack of economic strength and urbanization rate, it could not represent the NO.1 city in Shandong.
This time, Qingdao resident population has successfully exceeded 10 million people. Coupled with its GDP strength of 1.2 trillion, its leading position in Shandong is further consolidated.
Qingdao Still Needs to Speed up Again
As one of the first coastal open cities in China, Qingdao is the beneficiary of population movement.
In 1978, at the beginning of the reform and opening up, the resident population of Qingdao was only 5.85 million, and in 2019, it increased to 9.5 million. In 40 years, it grew 62%, 17 percentage points higher than the national average growth rate.
It should be said that Qingdao's attractiveness to the population is roughly equivalent to the city's economic volume and urban capacity. However, the size of Qingdao's resident population is not large compared to the top-ranked cities in China.
In order to promote high-quality development and achieve a series of goals and tasks in the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Qingdao needs not only to gather high-quality talents, but also to have a large urban population to support.
